Stricter requirements and restrictions will be imposed on the provision of taxi services on transport infrastructure of international importance – bus stations, railway stations, airports and ports. The amendments to the Road Transport Act, supported by the Saeima at the last reading, provide for this.
At the airport, at bus stations, railway stations and ports, the government will determine limited access to taxi services. The carrier can work there for a fixed fee with a good prepaid when registering at the taxi counter.
The Saeima was informed that, to reduce the possibility that taxi drivers would reduce their real incomes, the increases or reductions applied by taxis could not exceed 50% of the declared fare, also prohibiting the manual operation of a taximeter. after the trip.
On the other hand, with regard to pbadenger rights, the bill provides that if the carrier violates the legal requirements and the taximeter is not turned on, the pbadenger will have the right to terminate the contract service and refuse to pay for the service.
At the same time, the bill also sets additional requirements for websites and mobile site services. Registration of the service should be carried out by the Road Transport Directorate. If it is found that the service provider is not registered or does not comply with regulatory requirements, the website or mobile application will be suspended. At the same time, the service provider and the carrier have joint and several liability, as well as changes in the provision of services.
According to the bill, the carrier will be able to receive a taxi number and amend the general interest registration plates on the basis of a registered trademark in the National Register of Vehicles and their drivers, established by the city of the republic or the planning region.
CONTEXT:
In early September 2017, a judgment came into effect. It opened the lane reserved for taxis from the airport to the arrival terminals. After several months, the Riga airport acknowledged that he was not satisfied with the new order, indicating both the potential security risks and the drop in quality.
On the other hand, from 1 June, local authorities can no longer set a maximum ceiling for taxi fares and each company may freely set prices at its discretion. The new order is dissatisfied with pbadengers – both foreigners who are asked a disproportionate cost of travel and locals who have recorded fraudulent behavior on the part of taxi drivers.
