In the last four weeks in Latvia, the intensity of influenza has decreased significantly and should be reported in late March or early April, at the end of the influenza epidemic.

Data from the Center for Prevention and Control of Diseases (CCPC) show that last week, the intensity of flu in Latvia continued to fall to reach 114.4 cases on average per 100,000. residents, 11.2% less than a week ago. At the same time, influenza intensity fell by 40.7% last week to reach 128.8 cases per 100,000 population.
However, the prevalence of infection remains high and in some areas morbidity increases even, says RCD Nikiforova, an epidemiologist with the CCPC.
"Influenza is not just morbidity, it can be dangerous in some cases and also fatal. This means that we have to save ourselves a lot and, in case of illness, we absolutely have to stay at home. Take care of your health! not only the elderly and the sick die of influenza, but also young and healthy people, but if they consult their doctor late and start treatment, such cases also mean that the flu can be very badly to end, "said Nikiforova.
According to the SPCC, the flu has killed 62 people since the beginning of the season. The deceased patients, with the exception of some of them, had one or more chronic diseases and none of these patients were vaccinated against influenza this season.
CONTEXT:
The beginning of the flu epidemic in Latvia was announced on January 15th. Elderly people with chronic influenza and people with chronic illness – chronic cardiovascular, pulmonary and renal diseases, diabetes, oncology patients, patients with chronic infections and people with weakened immune systems. Influenza is particularly dangerous for young children and pregnant women.
