The Ministry of Economy (EM) has drafted and will submit to the Ministry of Transport (ME) on Friday, July 6, several proposals to resolve the situation in the field of supply of taxi services. One of these proposals is to set a maximum rate cap for taxi services, informs the ministry.
The EM recognizes that the current situation with the quality and availability of taxi services in the major public transport centers – Riga Pbadenger Port, the International Bus Station and the Riga Railway Station, as well as in the vicinity of the Old Town of Riga – is absurd and inevitable
"The situation must be resolved by rapidly eliminating the possibilities of fraud, poorly supplied services and excessively high prices for services, and by rationalizing industrial regulation in order to promote sustainable growth of the sector in a context of fair competition ". To this end, EM has prepared proposals for:
- establishing maximum tariff ceilings for taxi services by developing a robust and detailed methodology for setting tariffs;
- define the quality criteria for taxi services, providing to determine the quality requirements of taxi services, including the right to set maximum transport fares for certain destinations, for example from the airport from Riga to the center of Riga, as well as higher quality requirements for a vehicle,
- to impose additional conditions for obtaining a license and, consequently, to cancel
- introduce digital solutions in the industry, providing that each device is equipped with a device that informs the customer before the trip of a provisional fee,
- to strengthen the supervision and control of the sector, calling for greater emphasis on commercial vehicle surveillance activities
BACKGROUND:
To arrange the current taxi "bardac" as part of the service delivery, it is necessary to inform the consumer, including in places of particular interest, the rights of consumers. Riga International Airport, Riga International Bus Station, Riga Railway Station and Pbadenger Port, the supervisor of this area, the Ministry of Transport wants to establish stricter regulations in this area and increase control takas.
The change of regime of tax services at the airport took place following a judgment rendered by the Supreme Court last year, which abolished restrictions on the provision of services at the airport.
