The children's book publishing house "Big and Small" has published a book of the horror story of Mara Rungul "Three dead in Martinique". Ghost Stories Snap-on. Book 2 ", illustrated by artist Kristian Brekte, addressed to middle school students.
"Three dead in Martinique" is a continuation of the book "Walking in the City of the Dead" in 2016, but it is also read in a completely independent way.
More than 30 years ago, Maris Rungulis started collecting and publishing children's stories about the ghosts, horrors and jokes of oral folklore. The author literally writes the ghost storytelling cycle, broadens it and integrates it into a unique storyline.
In the book "Three Dead in Martinique", students gather in the hall during a special evening in March. Martynew enters the month of the weasel and on the stage, three of the students dressed for death tell students the horror stories in the light of candles, trying to shout downright. When the moment of death "breathes" is revealed, it turns out that their listeners have already begun to turn enthusiastically towards the narrative.
"Walking in the City of the Dead" won the Jāņa Baltvilka Prize for Children's Literature and the Gold Abele Book Art Prize. The illustrations and design highlight the commitment of the two books, as the illustrator Kristians Brekte and the artist na Laukmane created the visual design. The artistic writing of Christian Breket is provocative and provocative, but terrible and disgusting. It is often hyperbolized to the point of becoming a comic. The combination of humor and fear in the text and illustrations corresponds to the psychological need of children to tell, rituals and traditional characters to experiment, to survive and to excite their existential fears of consciousness, to overcome the scary comic.
A special printing technique – a phosphorescent discolouration that shines in the dark – is used for the front and back of the curvaceous red book.
