Launch of Walmart Car Seat Exchange Program: How to Get Your $ 30 Gift Card

The very first Walmart car seat exchange program is underway.

The event began Monday and will continue until September 30th. Nearly 4,000 Walmart stores will participate across the country, according to CNN.

You can find a participating store online. In the Syracuse area, the Walmart sites of East Syracuse, Cicero, Camillus and Clay all participate in the conference.

During the event, you can bring up to two old car seats and get $ 30 Walmart gift cards that you can use in-store or online, according to Walmart. Customers must bring the car seats that they wish to exchange at the customer service counter.

All brands of car seats are accepted, but the extra seats are not eligible, said Walmart.

"We wanted to use our size and scale to create an event offering unprecedented access to trade from an outdated car seat versus a gift card – great for using your baby's next car seat," said Melody Richards , Vice President of Walmart Baby. in a statement, according to USA Today.

The old seats will then be taken for recycling. Walmart is partnering with the recovery program with TerraCycle, a global waste management company specializing in hard-to-recycle items such as car seats.

TerraCycle founder and CEO Tom Skazy said the program will divert the plastic equivalent of about 35 million bottles of water from landfills, according to CNN.

Target has just closed its own car seat exchange event earlier in September. Since launching the program three years ago, Target has collected half a million seats and recycled more than 11.9 million pounds of materials, according to USA Today.

Prior to the bankruptcy of Toys R Us, the Babies R Us chain also organized car seat exchange events.
