Pokémon GO introduces a new feature: Collectible Challenges! Collectible challenges are a handy concept that requires players to collect Pokémon featured in certain events.

Completing Collection Challenges provides various in-game rewards and adds levels to your new Elite Collectible Medal. Collection challenges are available from the Today view and are linked to the corresponding in-game event.

Once the in-game event is over, the tied collection challenge ends and cannot be completed. In a sense, Collectible Challenges are like timed searches, but completing them counts toward your Elite Collector’s Medal.

Unova Collection Challenge is the first Collection Challenge in Pokémon GO

The Unova Celebration event will take place tomorrow, January 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. local time. To promote the event, and to promote the launch of the Collectible Challenges, the first Collectible Challenge features Unova Pokémon!

The challenge was accidentally leaked earlier today – check out our Unova Collection Challenge is launched before the Unova Celebration Event – error? article for more details – and we’ll only share the Pokémon included in the challenge here:

Judging by the game’s originally leaked game clock, the challenge is live from Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 8:00 p.m. local time.

The Unova Collection Challenge will reward the following:

Our thoughts on the challenges of the collection

At first, I felt like the collection challenges would be another FOMO (fear of missing out) moment for Pokémon GO players, but my position on the matter has since changed.

Since the challenge has a low turnout bar and the rewards aren’t hugely lucrative, it actually feels like a little push towards increased player participation during in-game events.

Very good for me, especially considering that Niantic is increasing the appearances for the Pokémon needed to complete the challenge during the Unova Celebration event. Of course, the spawn table can be increased in a really bad way, but hopefully it won’t.

Just optimistic about the functionality – let’s see how it will perform over the next few events.
