The noisy basketball dad who walked away from the stage after some financial woes and the Big Baller brand failure seized another opportunity to spotlight his son’s big night.
The Balls hosted a lavish draft night at their home in Chino Hills, Calif. On Wednesday with food service and a Rolls Royce gifted to the man of honor, No. 3 overall and the new Charlotte Hornet LaMelo. Ball.
LaMelo Ball mingles with 250 guests
They invited ESPN’s Tim Keown to document the experience. As the COVID-19 pandemic raged and ruined Thanksgiving plans across the country, the Balls hosted around 250 people – according to Keown’s estimate – to witness LaMelo’s big night.

LaVar pushes BBB, re-edit MJ challenge
And while the sun has long set on the Big Baller brand, LaVar has continued to keep the facade alive by delivering loot-filled gift baskets to its guests along with BBB-branded tea towels and coffee mugs.
LaVar took the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors to LaMelo in stride, through Keown. He made the most of Michael Jordan’s Hornets by drafting LaMelo, repeating one of the wackiest claims of his run in the spotlight – again challenging Jordan to a one-on-one match.
Ball envisions the event as a pay-per-view extravaganza at Mike Tyson’s upcoming boxing show against Roy Jones Jr.
“Hey, if people are willing to pay to see Mike Tyson, 50, fight, why not?” Ball said, by Keown.
There was no word from Jordan, who previously said of Ball’s bragging that he could beat him: “I don’t think he could beat me if I was one-legged.
