LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) – The third season of Queer Eye, shot in Kansas City, is now broadcast on Netflix. For a Lawrence woman transformed into the series, she was much more than a mere makeover.
The Mad Greek restaurant, where Jess Guilbeaux is waiting at the tables, became his star on Friday night.
Guilbeaux would describe his self prior to Queer Eye as "stressed, chaotic, confused," but now sees himself completely differently.
"Confident, fierce kween and" queen "with a" K "and a" W ", in particular," she told KCTV5 News.
Peggy Kritos, owner of Mad Greek with her husband, noticed the change in Guilbeaux.
"After all this, I can just see a lot more confidence in her," Kritos said.
Friday night, the biological sister of Guilbeaux was among those present at the evening at the restaurant. She had lost contact with her after her adoptive parents disavowed her at the age of 16 for her lesbian identity and to whom the show had allowed her to reconnect.
"After the show, we were close," said Guilbeaux. "I call her every day, she calls me every day."
The Netflix version of Queer Eye is a redesign of the makeover show featuring the "Fab Five" that focuses on decor, fashion, food, hair and culture, while using a lifestyle coach style that aims an emotional makeover.
"First, they build a level of self-confidence, and then they challenge you to push you out," Guilbeaux said of the experience. "In itself, it sticks to you every day."
She added that the Fab Five were still in touch and she was now passing on to others the trust she gave him to other people from across the country, moved by her story.
"They saw me on TV and they thought," I can confide in someone, "she explained," and that's why I did it. I just did not want people in my situation to feel lonely. "
