Escondido, Calif. – Henry Avocado Corporation is voluntarily recalling entire avocados grown in California, sold in bulk at retail stores due to a risk of contamination, the San Diego-based company said in a press release published Saturday.
The company issued the voluntary recall as a precaution after positive test results for Listeria monocytogenes had been found on environmental samples taken during a routine inspection by the government in the US. its packaging center in California.
"We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every measure possible to ensure the safety of consumers who consume our avocados," said Henry Henry, President Henry Henry.
The recalled classic and organic avocados grown in California were packaged in a California-based packaging facility and distributed in several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. All shipments from the facility may be subject to a recall, but the company only started packing there in late January 2019.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious or life-threatening infections in young children, frail and elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals only suffer from short-term symptoms, such as a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, infection with Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
According to Henry Avocado, no case of illness associated with this recall has been reported to date.
