The lawyer for the former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization Allen WeisselbergAllen Howard Weisselberg Prosecutors Consider Charging Trump Organization CFO of Perjury: Reports Former Trump Advisor Barrack Lobbyed Secretly for UAE says his client expects to face more indictments in his tax evasion case, CNN reported.
Weisselberg’s attorney Bryan Skarlatos said during the preliminary hearing on Monday that prosecutors may hand over more indictments soon.
“We have good reason to believe that there may be more indictments to come,” Skarlatos said.
Skarlatos also said during the hearing that he was concerned that his client was being used as “collateral damage ”in the ongoing dispute between attorneys for the Trump Organization and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, according to CNN.
The lawyer held up an envelope, saying the two parties met in the judge’s office prior to the initial hearing and that the envelope contains tax documents from a “basement of the co-conspirator.
“Mr. Weisselberg is the boss. Nor is Mr. Weisselberg an innocent party taken as collateral damage.” Attorney Solomon Shinerock of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in court.
Weissenberg, who was arrested and charged in July, faces 15 counts, including for his role in a 15-year tax evasion scheme.
Prosecutors allege that starting in 2005, Weissenberg avoided paying income taxes of $ 1.76 million and hid his residence in New York City to also avoid filing income taxes.
The former chief financial officer of the Trump organization also received compensation that included a new luxury apartment on the upper floors, new luxury cars for him and his wife and private lessons for his grandchildren, CNN reported.
Weissenberg, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is expected to return to court in July 2022, CNN noted.
