The title of Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker is a mystery in itself. Many fans have speculated on exactly what this means since the title was revealed at the end of the first trailer. After all, there are no more Skywalkers to our knowledge, so the possibility that there is one is quite confusing. Of course, the title could refer to Kylo Ren, but the chances of that happening are slim. This is all the more true as he has given up his last name and also hates his uncle. However, a whole new theory suggests that the title could actually refer to Anakin Skywalker.
Warning! Speculative Spoilers for Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker below.
Redditor u / TROAnakinSkywalker suggests that Anakin will rise to ensure the completion of "his story by realizing the prophecy of the elect and bringing a balance to the force." Yes, Anakin is technically dead. The man best known as Darth Vader converts on the light side of the Force before dying Star Wars: The return of the Jedi. So how exactly Episode IX title be on him?
Well, it's still possible that Anakin will come back as a ghost of strength, as Luke supposed. And the title can not refer to Luke, who is already supposed to be dead in Episode IX (and will not have an important role). Moreover, he had his brilliant moments in The last Jedi it is no longer necessary to focus so much on him. On top of that, there is in fact quite significant evidence that could really prove this theory.
One of the first evidences is the arrival of Hayden Christiansen at this year's Star Wars celebration. This event takes place every year, but this is the first time Christiansen has made a public appearance at the Star Wars event for years (this does not imply a surprise appearance on the panel). The actor tends to avoid anything related to the franchise if he can help it and the fact that his appearance was announced in advance must make sense, right?
There is also Kevin Smith's visit to Episode IX together. Although the director obviously can not reveal what and who he saw during his stay, he described a Star Wars actor giving "unparalleled career performance". Could he talk about Christiansen?
"Someone I've seen in these movies before," he continued. "I rolled a tear, it was so powerful."
Seeing Christians come back under the name of Anakin to deliver a powerful speech (even as a Force Ghost) would be a highlight. Again, there are many other characters who meet these criteria. So who knows what Smith was referring to?
Moreover, Kylo's obsession with his grandfather's legacy may have nothing to do with the Dark Side's or the First Order's takeover of the galaxy. According to a series of Darth Vader comics, Anakin turned to the dark side to save Padmé. Kylo may have spoken to Darth Vader's helmet to keep the connection on his return.
The base is there for the return of Anakin. But even if he could, how could he come back? Well, the comic series of Darth Vader Star Wars has all-inclusive. Before his death, Anakin had built a door that could bring people back to life. Thus, Kylo could reconfigure this door to bring back Anakin, thus facilitating the task of Skywalker.
If the return of Anakin is not very likely, Christensen who would resume his role of famous Skywalker could prove to be one of the best kept secrets of the world. Episode IX.
Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker in theaters December 20, 2019.
