Leaks reveal the Surface Pro 7 configurations before the Microsoft event

The Microsoft event of October 2nd is fast approaching. However, since Microsoft remains discreet about what the event holds for fans of Windows, leaks and speculation are not lacking.

At TechRadar, we believe the new Surface hardware is on the way, especially since at least two of these Surface devices need to be upgraded. And we are not the only ones to think so.

WinFuture seems to think that the next Surface Pro could possibly make its appearance, after receiving information on the upcoming Surface Pro 7 configurations. The German online publication shared five references for the Surface device, which are as follows:

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD
  • Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

These configurations are apparently specifically available for the European market, but that does not mean that we can not use them to make assumptions about the configurations available for the US market.

Anticipate similar configurations for the United States

Of course, all this is only speculation. Whether it's right or not (or if Surface Pro 7 will come up this year), you'll have to wait and see.

The above configurations represent a basic model with an Intel Core i3 chip coupled with a 4GB memory and a 128GB storage. This is surprising since the Surface Pro 6 in Germany is currently starting with an Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB, just like the Surface Pro 6 in the United States.

However, this could potentially be good news for budget-conscious buyers who can not afford to pay the premiums of tablets nowadays.

Since Germany and the United States share substantially the same configurations for the Surface Pro 6 – with the exception of the 256GB model, which does not have the 16GB RAM coupling in Germany, it this is possible with the Surface Pro 7 too. This means that potential US users can also have Intel Core i3 + 4GB RAM as a more affordable option.

The base model of the Surface Pro 6 was priced at $ 899 (£ 879, AU $ 1,145) upon release. Assuming that Microsoft does not significantly increase the price of its counterpart Surface Pro 7, we could consider a new base model of around $ 600 or less. This makes the next Surface Pro device more accessible than ever to a larger market.

Of course, all this is only speculation. Whether it's right or not (or if Surface Pro 7 will come up this year), you'll have to wait and see.
