Leaving LastPass? Here’s how to get your passwords out

LastPass is changing its free plan, and some are looking for a new home for their passwords. But how do you get your passwords and other data out of LastPass?

Here’s how.

There are several ways to extract your data from LastPass, but the easiest and most reliable way I have found is to log into your account through a browser on a computer.

You can then export a CSV compatible file of your data, which most password apps and services will accept (this is a whole different topic, and I suggest you test things out and take your time, as there always has the risk of losing your password data).

Here I will show you how to extract your data from LastPass.

Step 1

First, go to lastpass.com and login to your account.

If you are using two-factor authentication, you will need to enter these details.

Step 3

There you are. Now click on Advanced option…

Click on Export.

Step 5

Enter your credentials again.

Step 6

Here is your data!

Step 7

Now you need to select this data, copy it, paste it into a text file and give it a .CSV extension.

I don’t recommend keeping all of your passwords unencrypted, so you either need to encrypt this file in the meantime, so put it in the service you’re going to use next.

Plus, don’t kill your LastPass account until you’re sure your new service is set up and your passwords are accessible! Remember these are your passwords!

I cannot stress this step enough! I’ve heard from several people over the years who have gotten themselves into a huge mess doing this.
