The health minister said that five people among the victims of the explosion in the vicinity of the Cairo Institute of Oncology were in critical condition.

The health minister announced the death of 17 people and wounded 32 others in the blast Monday morning at dawn.

"Five cases are critical in critical care and the others are moderately to moderate," said the minister at a press conference at the Nbader Institute.

The wounded were evacuated to the Nbader Institute immediately after paying about 42 ambulances.

The Interior Ministry has revealed the circumstances of the explosion occurred near the Institute of Oncology Manial.

A security source said that when a speeding motor vehicle had accidentally reversed the direction of Corniche Nile Street in front of the Sayeda Zeinab Police Center, in front of the Institute of Oncology, he had hit three cars, causing an explosion.

Attorney General Nabil Ahmed Sadek has ordered the transfer of a team of prosecutors from south Cairo to the site of the blast that occurred in front of the Institute of Oncology of the region of Qasr al-Aini and to carry out the necessary inspections to determine the reasons and explain the unfolding of the incident.
