NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A new study suggests a 70% reduction in the risk of heart disease and diabetes by following seven recommendations from the American Heart Association.

These recommendations are aimed at reducing the impact of risk factors that threaten the heart, but according to a new study from Ohio University, it has been found that preventive benefits against diabetes were also achieved.

The seven risk factors that threaten the heart and are the subject of recommendations are: smoking, physical activity, weight, diet, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

According to the study published in the journal "Diabetology" of the European Diabetes Society, it was found that making 5 out of 7 recommendations reduced the risk of heart disease by 80%.

The results, based on health data for 100 million people, showed that adherence to the 7 recommendations for the prevention of heart disease reduced the risk of diabetes by 70% over the next 10 years.
