Small submarines participated this week in a large pool in southern England in an unconventional race. These submarines were not powered by diesel or nuclear energy, but were moving inexorably.
The biennial European underwater international race is the fourth this year and is organized by Gosport.
Race director William Miguel said, "It's like an underwater bike … teams of engineers from around the world are building a three meter long submarine. The only driving force is muscle strength. "
