More than 20 people were killed by fires that swept the Athens area on Monday, according to a Greek government spokesman.
Most of the victims were trapped in Mati, 40 kilometers northeast of Athens. Their cars, indicating the presence of more than 104 wounded, including 11 serious injuries. Greece has been facing a free wave since Sunday, and the meteorological department predicted that the temperature would reach 41 degrees Celsius in the center of the country.
Tsanakopoulos said the authorities continued to search for victims and evacuation of fire.
He also pointed out that Spain would send planes to help Greece, while Cyprus would send a team of 60 firefighters.
Greece has sought to activate the European Civil Protection Mechanism to obtain the badistance of its partners.
