Beirut – Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri said Wednesday that he was more optimistic than ever about forming a new government.
In his televised remarks after his meeting with President Michel Aoun, Hariri said, "I am more optimistic than any other period."
Foreign donors say that Lebanon, which held legislative elections on May 6, must form a government quickly to preserve confidence and start working on reforms to help the struggling economy.
Supported by members of the new parliament maintained the post of prime minister in Aoun's parliamentary consultations after the elections, which led to the appointment of Hariri to form a government.
Hariri said in June that he was "very close" to the government. The new government, like its predecessor, includes representatives of all Lebanese communities under the political quota system.
The May elections were the first since 2009. The differences between the country's main political blocs have been paralyzed for years until they agree to 2016.
