"Genetic modification could have unintended consequences, which is an ambiguous situation that needs to be taken seriously," FAO Director-General Tidros Adhanom Gibressus said at a press briefing.
"The World Health Organization is a group of experts and we will work with Member States to do everything in our power to ensure that all issues, that they are ethical , social or security, before action is taken, "he said.
China's unjustified global announcement triggered a storm of international discontent over the ethics and integrity of such research.
