The Ministry of Health yesterday launched a blind exercise as part of the global training for the global pandemic influenza response and the three-day exercise period.
The World Exercise, launched yesterday by the World Health Organization's Global Emergency Operations Center in Geneva, in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and with the participation of 40 countries, including Jordan, are part of the global response to the influenza pandemic, said ministry spokesman Hatem al-Azrai.
He added that exercise is of utmost importance as it is the first of its kind in the world to train to cope with the flu pandemic and the third of a kind. series of simulation exercises for this year 2018 after previous regional exercises in Jordan and Senegal.
He stressed the importance of Jordan's participation in the global exercise, which will determine the readiness of the Department of Health's emergency operations center. as part of the national emergency response plan.
He emphasized that the exercise was part of health preparedness to ensure a response to crises in order to preserve the lives of citizens and that it contributed to the definition of policies. , plans and procedures, that a standard organization and process related to the immediate response were effective.
He stressed that the practical training would identify the elements of force needed to react and aim to strengthen them, the weaknesses and the drawbacks to avoid them, and thus identify the areas necessary for development and improvement in response to the crisis. .
He added that the training coincided with the centenary of the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, during which one-third of the world's population was diagnosed with the disease, killing millions, while the most recent pandemic occurred. place a decade ago.
He said a global pandemic was not unlikely, which required a willingness to respond effectively and prepare plans.
"Training on test plans and capabilities in a realistic environment is a real event, and countries are working hard with the WHO to be ready to deal with health crises and emergencies so to reduce their consequences for public health by gaining in-depth experience of practicing the best response. "
The Emergency Operations Center of the Department of Health participates in various directorates of the Ministry of Health, delegates from other relevant agencies and a team of experts from the World Organization. of Health and the Center for Disease Control of the United States.
Residents from Asia, North America, Europe and Africa are closely monitoring the performance evaluation of the Emergency Operations Centers. This simulation will identify gaps and opportunities to improve the readiness of Member States to respond jointly and effectively to global public health emergencies.
