LONDON (Reuters) – Southampton striker Ralf Hazenhotel was named Southampton's new coach on Wednesday after a two-and-a-half-year contract with Dutchman Mark Hughes.
Hazenhotel, 51, has been without a club since leaving Leipzig in May after two seasons, placing him in second place in the Bundesliga (2016-2017) and sixth in the following season.
"The coaching change allows us to make a fresh start," said Southampton president Ralf Kruger. "Ralph has quickly become the ideal candidate for us."
"As a coach, Haznhotel demonstrates his pbadion, ability to communicate and his appetite for the further development we are looking for in Southampton," he said. "The pbadion for a new position is a major challenge in the Premier League and it was clear" at the new coach.
Kelvin Davis will lead the team against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Wednesday in the English Premier League before Hazenhotel plays his first official match against Cardiff on Saturday.
Before his match against Tottenham Hotspur Wednesday, Southampton is 18th in the championship with only 9 points out of 14 games.
