Researchers at the University of Queensland, Australia, have revealed a new blood test that can detect cancer in the body in just 10 minutes and depends on the discovery of the DNA fingerprint for cancerous tumors.
The researchers developed the test after discovering a "biomarker" that refers to several types of cancer.
Matt Trau, the researcher who published the study in Nature Communication, said on Wednesday that it was difficult to identify a simple sign of the complex disease, even a disease, such as bad cancer, requiring multiple tests.
But researchers have found a sign that appears in all types of bad cancer, prostate cancer, colon, rectum and lymphoma, suggesting that the sign could be "a common feature of all cancers," said the researcher.
The test depends on the use of liquid color changes related to the presence of cancer cells anywhere in the body. The test could also be done by taking tissue, the scientists said.
This discovery is expected to contribute to the early detection and treatment of cancer, perhaps years before the onset of symptoms.
It is hoped that this test will be used in addition to other periodic tests conducted by patients, such as measuring the proportion of cholesterol in the body.
