A senior 2022 World Cup organizer revealed Wednesday Qatar's position on the participation of other countries in the organization of the tournament for the first time.
Nbader Al Khater, deputy secretary general of the Higher Committee for Projects and Legacy, organized the championship. Qatar has held no discussion with other countries to participate in the organization of the final, according to "AFP".
FIFA is considering a proposal supported by its president, Gianni Infantino, to increase the number of teams in the World Cup from 32 to 48, rather than wait for the World Cup in 2026 to do so, as decided by the FIFA.
"We have not discussed our participation," said Khater at a meeting with reporters Wednesday. "Nothing will be imposed on anyone," he said, adding that it was "a feasibility study and a consultation process." On the basis of the feasibility study and the talks, an agreement will be concluded. "
He stressed that "there will be no unilateral decision".
The possibility of matches in other countries in the region is unlikely, especially in the light of the Gulf crisis since Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Manama and Cairo broke off ties with Doha in June 2017.
Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup between November 21st and December 18th, outside of the summer, to avoid the impact of heat in Qatar during this season.
