A new device detects the incidence of depression

To help detect anxiety and depression in patients, technicians have developed a new device that physicians can use for this purpose.

The device includes a helmet and a bracelet for the hand joint and another for the ankle, which monitors the heart rate and the level of perspiration and breathing, as well as the pupil diameter. The data is collected and badyzed by computer.

Many suffer from anxiety and depression without the disease being diagnosed because patients do not recognize and report symptoms. However, physical symptoms can be used to report potential problems at an early stage.

Experimental studies of the system, dubbed the Mental Disorders Assessment System, developed by the American engineering firm Draper, have impressed researchers, who can diagnose an acute anxiety disorder in 94% of cases.

The device is expected to be widely available in 2019, according to the British Daily Mail.
