Boca Juniors fires coach after losing Copa Libertadores

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters)

Argentine club Boca Juniors announced on Saturday that it had separated from coach Guillermo Barros Scelotto less than a week after losing the Libertadores Cup final to local rival River Plate.
Boca lost 3-1 in the last leg of the final of the Libertadores Cup in Madrid, beating River 5-3 in total in the first final between the two rivals.
"The best thing for Boca this year is to change things, to look for a new training device and to start from scratch," Boca's president Daniel Anjelicchi said at a press conference.
Skelotto, whose contract expires on December 31, has spent most of his career at Boca, representing him for 16 years, winning three times the Libertadores and scoring 86 goals.
"Even though I did not win the Libertadores Cup, I'm going quiet, and I know I 've done my best on the pitch, it' s the best decision I 've made. I took it, "said the 45-year-old former striker.
Under the direction of Skelotto, Boca has won the last two seasons in the Argentine league and is currently sixth in the competition.
