Argentine Lionel Messi won Tuesday's Golden Boot from Europe's top scorer for the fifth time in his career. Messi outperformed the Egyptian star and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah, as well as Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Messi scored 34 goals in 68 games last season, retaining the prize that he had won three times before.
Messi won the prize with Juventus player Cristiano Ronaldo, but has now won the Golden Ball award five times.
"I dreamed of playing football professionally and succeeding, I love the game, but I had never imagined doing the same," said Messi after receiving the Golden Boot at the # 39, a ceremony in Barcelona.
We have the best players in the world at their posts, which makes my job easier and involves winning prizes, "he said.
Messi won the Golden Boot in the 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2016-2017 seasons. He led Barcelona to win the league and the King's Cup in Spain last season.
The Primera Liga striker leads the league with 14 goals this season, ahead of any other player in the top five in the European standings.
