The Mars Express mission of the European Space Agency started in 2003 and came into orbit around March on this year's Christmas Day, marking the 15th anniversary of its scientific program.
The images sent by the mission were considered a "big party" on the occasion of Christmas, according to the European Agency.
The images were taken from the Mars Express High Resolution Camera and the images are composed of five slides combined to form a single image.
The volcano called Koroliev, the chief engineer of Soviet space rockets, also known as the "father of Soviet space technology".
The images arrive a few weeks after the US space probe "Insight" landed on the surface of Mars, which allowed it to send images to Earth.
