"Harmin" puts an end to diabetes .. What is it?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A team of US researchers has discovered a new drug called "Harmine", which would be the "revolutionary" treatment that can finally cure diabetes.

The results show that the drug "can cause the multiplication of insulin-producing cells, which could possibly help treat diabetes". People with diabetes lack beta cells in the pancreas responsible for the secretion of insulin and, without enough insulin, they are unable to properly process glucose.

Harmin can stimulate pancreatic cells to produce ten times more insulin each day than beta cells. According to the Daily Mail, the treatment is still in the early stages of the test, but researchers believe that its significant effect on insulin secretion could cause a revolution and a major breakthrough in the treatment of type I and type II diabetes .
