(Reuters) – Felipe Anderson scored a superb double to lead West Ham United to a 2-1 win over Southampton after a spectacular climb to qualify for Thursday in the first half of the Premier League.
West Ham has four points to nine with 27 points in 19 games, while Southampton remains 16th and has 15 points, three points behind the relegation zone after their first home defeat in five games.

West Ham coach Manuel Pellegrini was happy to see his team find themselves in the first half of the table with the end of the first half of the season, after four straight defeats.
"We played well from the first minute to win and we played a balance," he told BBC Radio. "We worked more in the opposing half and we defended very well.
"December has been a good month for the team, not only for me, but also for the club.I think one of the most important things is to play like that at home."
After a lead in the first half, Nathan Redmond put Southampton ahead of his shoulder in the 50th minute after goalkeeper Okash Fabianski took his first shot and followed Oriole Romeo.
In the absence of base forward duo Marco Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, Anib West Ham was out until Brazilian midfielder Anderson managed to reverse the match.
Anderson scored in the 53rd minute with a superb 20-meter shot and completed the West Ham uprising by adding a second goal with a perfect 13-meter shot.
Fabianski got a long-range shot from Stuart Armstrong and an excellent defense in the final minutes as Southampton stormed a draw.
West Ham goalkeeper Mario Lemena's strike failed twice in the last 15 minutes as Southampton coach Ralf Haznhott feared he would miss the opportunity to move away from the relegation zone.
"If you had to score like us, then you do not deserve to win," said the Austrian coach.
"The way we lost today was very easy," he said.
