Equivalent to the number of Ferrari standard titles "humility"

Mercedes boss Toto Wolf said he was humiliated after joining Ferrari with money by winning five consecutive Formula 1 titles.

This year, Lewis Hamilton has won the fifth double title of the Mercedes since the beginning of the era of hybrid engines, making it the only second team in history after Ferrari, which has won five titles of pilot and dual pilot.

Wolf said the feat made him very proud, recalling the contact of "VIA" president Jean Todt, to congratulate him, the latter himself being the leader of Ferrari's success with Michael Schumacher at the turn of the millennium.

"I was very proud to be in the same club as you and I thought to myself: I have to be proud," Wolf told our motorsports.com website.

In addition to winning the double title between 2000 and 2004 with Schumacher, Ferrari won the constructors 'championship in 1999, when Mika Hakkinen won the drivers' title.

Wolff said that Ferrari's performance formula gave him a stunning feeling.

"We are delighted with the double fifth title this year because it puts us in the same position as Ferrari, in the days of Todt and Schumacher," he said.

"That's what I remember when I was a kid – amazing, so the equation gives us a sense of humility and I'm grateful for that."

Relations with Ferrari

The success of Mercedes in 2018 stems from a fierce battle that has sometimes resulted in increased tension with Ferrari.

In addition to the controversy surrounding the double battery Ferrari, the last phases of the season were marked by several races during which Mercedes decided not to use the revolutionary design, fearing that Ferrari makes an official claim.

In reviewing the relationship between the two teams, Wolf believes that there is nothing extraordinary.

"I think it's very difficult to maintain a warm affection for the season as each group is obsessed with victory," he said.

"We can see things back to normal now, because that's our common platform that we need to make it work."

"We have to have a relationship to discuss several things, so I think it's quite natural that the relationship is sometimes more difficult and a chain in others," he said.
