LONDON (Reuters) – Chelsea said Monday it has earned 443.4 million pounds ($ 562 million) for the 2017-2018 season, thanks to its return to the Champions League and the sale of some players.
The club, which belongs to the rich Russian Roman Abramovich, announced a profit of 62 million pounds last season.
The club's turnover has increased 22.7% in 2017-2018 compared to the previous season, thanks to the revenue of 113 million pounds from the sale of players and participation in the Champions League (which came out of the price of the final). At LE 47.1 million.
The club also benefited from the big contract signed with Nike, a US sports equipment company, worth £ 60 million a year.
The proceeds include the sale of Spanish forward Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid, Serbian Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, Dutchman Nathan Aki to Bournemouth and the transfer of Colombian Juan Cuadrado to Juventus.
The accounts, which closed on June 30, 2018, do not include allowances paid by the club to former Italian coach Antonio Conte, sacked last July after his team finished fifth of the season and has not managed to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Club president Bruce Buck said the club had achieved "a record number of revenue figures and its profit margin has been growing for years."
