LONDON (Reuters) – Southampton sealed a 0-0 draw at Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday and goalkeeper Angus John made a great start in his first stalemate appearance at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old has saved several attempts to give the struggling team a point and leave Chelsea in fourth place, ten points behind Liverpool.
As expected, Chelsea took control of the ball and had the most dangerous chances in the first half, but John stopped the Belgian from scoring in the 34th minute.
Southampton started the second period with more determination and Stoart Armstrong of Chelsea goaltender Kepa Arezabalaga was tested for the first time, but the Spaniard kept the danger.
John avoided another chance for Hazard in the 56th minute with a formidable tackle after Hazard hit the Southampton defense.
Alvaro Murata scored in the opposing goal in the 70th minute, but was in an offside position and John withdrew a further attempt from the Spanish striker eight minutes later.
