The cholera outbreak in Yemen is the worst in history

Using genetic sequencing techniques, researchers from the Wellcome Sanger British Institute and the Pasteur Institute in France discovered that the cholera strain that had spread to Yemen was appeared in East Africa and had transported migrants to Yemen.

These researchers hope that these data will help to evaluate the risks of future epidemics and to better target them.

Since 2016, the epidemic has affected 1 million people and caused 2,770 deaths.

The cholera outbreak has worsened the suffering of civilians facing the scourge of a three-year-old war opposing forces loyal to President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, backed by a military alliance led by Saudi Arabia and the Huthis movement backed by Iran.
