ABU DHABI – The ambition of Al Ittihad is to win the 2019 home title on Saturday, coach Alberto Zaccheroni announced Friday.
"Since taking over the team a year ago (an alternative to Mehdi Ali in October 2017), the main goal was to win the Asian Cup," said Zaccheroni at of the press conference on the eve of the opening match of Group B against Bahrain.
"The goal is to get the best possible result in Asia Cup."
This 65 year old veteran led Japan for the 2011 edition. "Eight years ago, I began to feel as though I was old," he said.
But the Italian, who also drove Milan to Serie A title in 1999, said he had seen an improvement in the performance of Asian teams in recent years "in terms of tactics and fitness, appeared during of the 2018 World Cup ".
"I'm sure we'll see more evidence of that in the Asian Cup."
