Tehran: Iran defied its first appearance in the Asian Cup after being swept 5-0 on Monday in the first round of group D matches.

The first half ended with a 3-0 lead from Iran over Mehdi Tarmi's goal in the 12th minute, while Ashkan Djakahah added the second goal of the game. 39, Iran in the 23rd minute, followed by Tarmi who scored his second goal and third in the 25th minute.

In the second half, Sardar Izmoun scored the fourth goal in the 52nd minute, before Saman Kedos finished in the 79th minute.

Yemen is participating for the first time since unification at the Asian Nations Cup, but the team's first appearance was disappointing.

Iran, who won the Asian Cup three times in 1968, 1972 and 1976, dominated the match from start to finish and could have scored more goals without luck.

For its part, the Yemeni team appeared weak and has from the beginning submitted to the Iranian pressure.

Ahmed Al-Saieri came close to a goal in the seventh minute after a ball shot outside the penalty area allowed the ball to get a shot powerful in one touch, while exceeding the goal.

Saud Al-Sawadi saved Yemen's goal in the 10th minute and responded with an enviable address to a rocket fired by Mehdi Tarmi from the penalty area line.

Iran took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to Mehdi Tarmi following a shot by Sardar Izmoun, taken over from the Yemeni goalkeeper.

Ashkan Dijakah added Iran 's second goal in the 23rd minute on a free kick from a distance of about 30 meters. The ball hit the post, then the Yemeni goalkeeper, before taking the advantage at the back of the net.

In the 25th minute, Tarmi scored his second goal and the third for Iran after receiving a clever pbad from Ramin Raqayyan to head for the ball and put it in the net.

The Iranian team took full control of the match, putting pressure on goalkeeper Saud al-Sawadi, while the Yemeni team retreated without making an offensive attempt against the goal.

Amid Brahimi nearly scored the 37th minute with a powerful shot from Iran, but Al-Sawadi put the ball with his fingertips in a corner.

The last five minutes have elapsed without a new lead at the end of Iran 's first half superiority by three unanswered goals.

Seven minutes after the start of the second half, Sardar Izmon scored the fourth goal of Iran from a corner to the right of all the players and came straight to Izmon directly in front of goal to easily mark the goal.

Iran completely dominated the match and launched more than a serious attack against the Yemeni goal but failed to score more goals.

Saman Kedos added the fifth goal to Iran in the 79th minute after a free kick shot to the left by the Yemeni defense at the edge of the penalty area, to face a sacred shot from the bird with right foot to net goalkeeper Saud Al-Sawadi.

Mehdi Turabi was about to score Iran's sixth goal in stoppage time with a shot, but the crossbar stood at his watch.
