The study, published in the Journal of Neurology, revealed no difference in the size of the white matter in the brain among the subjects studied.
The researchers also discovered a link between obesity and narrowing in specific regions of the brain.
"One day, we may be able to use a body mbad index (BMI) and measure the hip fracture to determine brain health," said Hammer.
The scientists acknowledged that only 5% of the people invited to participate in the study had participated.
The group examined tended to be healthier than those who chose not to participate.
For this reason, it is possible that researchers do not give a realistic picture of the largest number of people.
