Experts were able to badyze the data of 119 people over 60 who were deprived of sleep.
US doctors have concluded that somnolence during the day may indicate the risk of dementia. The study was published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
The doctors followed 119 patients over 60 who had been deprived of deep sleep. Doctors monitored their brain waves with the help of electrical appliances.
It was found that the patients studied had an increase in the amount of Tau protein that destroys neurons and forms proteinuria in the brain, discovered in Alzheimer's disease (a type of aging dementia).
The doctors noted that this negative effect was present among retirees who sleep during the day and suffer from a lack of deep sleep.
