Japan has qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2018 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates after beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in Sharjah in the sixteenth round of the competition.
Takihiro Tomibado scored the winner's goal in the 20th minute.
Japan has qualified for a quarter-final against Vietnam, which beat Jordan 4-2 on penalties on Sunday.
Japan was part of Group A with nine points in three games, beating Turkmenistan 3-2, Oman 1-0 and Uzbekistan 2-1.
By contrast, Saudi Arabia won second place in Group E with 6 points in three games, beating North Korea 4-0 and Lebanon with a clear double, but losing to Qatar (2-0).
