Witness: The lunar eclipse is behind the dome of the rock in Jerusalem

People were able to observe a rare lunar phenomenon called the giant "moon of the wolf" in the skies of Jerusalem in the early hours of Monday.

The phenomenon that was visible in North America and parts of Europe and Africa was partly formed in the Middle East.

The eclipse occurs when the moon is less than 90% of the closest possible distance from the Earth, which makes it look larger.

Although it is a total eclipse, the moon does not darken completely but will shine in a red coppery color that earned it the name of Bloody Moon. It's what's called a giant moon because it's a full moon and very close to the earth.

Since its release in January, when the wolves were starving outside the villages, the description of the moon wolf has been obtained according to the German armands.

Unlike the solar eclipse, which requires eye protection to be safely observed, no further steps are required to follow the lunar eclipse without risk to health.

"The red color of the bloody moon is the result of sunlight flowing through the dusty and polluted atmosphere," said Andrew Vesikas, spokesperson for Astronomers and WeatherBorders.com. Blue rays with shorter wavelengths are more sensitive to refraction outside the Earth's surface, while longer, less refractive rays point to the moon.

About 2.8 billion people followed it in the Northern Hemisphere, Europe, West Africa and Africa.
