The Argentine football star Lionel Messi has called for the resumption of research on his compatriot Emiliano Sala, the French Nantes, whose plane disappeared Monday radar screens.
"As long as there is a possibility and a glimmer of hope, we ask you, please, not to stop looking for Emiliano," wrote the Barcelona player to his account "Instagram".
"All the support for his family and friends."
On Thursday, British authorities announced that they were no longer actively seeking a plane carrying Sala after her mysterious disappearance.
A three-day search at sea and at sea failed and covered an area of 1,700 square miles, near the Channel Islands, to locate the plane and two aboard, Sala and pilot David Abbotsson.
The plane took off from the French city of Nantes and was heading to Cardiff, where Sala was to play for the Welsh capital's football team.
The captain of Guernsey's main port, David Parker, said Thursday that the research team "had made the difficult decision to end the process," adding that "the chances of survival at this stage are very unlikely" .
Relatives of the missing were informed of the end of the operation, but everyone asked that she be resumed in the hope of getting information about the fate of the player and the pilot.
