BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) – The flu season is at its peak in China, but the growth rate is slowing as the number of outbreaks has decreased compared to the same period last year, Friday announced the authorities.
Sung Shu Li, spokesman for the National Health Commission, said at a press conference that the outbreaks were in stable condition this year in China.
Influenza in southern China has seen a rapid decline in prevalence, while in the north, it has reached a high level, said Li Chenglong, a leader of the committee's epidemic control department.
Lee pointed out that the Committee expects the 2018-2019 influenza season to decline in epidemics compared to the previous season.
The current flu is influenza A (H1N1), which accounts for over 90% of cases, said the committee, adding that vaccines remain the most effective way to fight the flu.
The committee said the recommended vaccines were still working on the flu virus this year.
A total of 14.26 million doses of vaccine were purchased and 10.97 million were used, according to the Committee, indicating that the supply and demand of vaccines were balanced.
The Committee asked the health departments and medical institutions at all levels to fully prepare for the Spring Festival and to guarantee the quality and efficiency of medical services during the holidays.
