MADRID (Reuters) – Atletico Madrid have loaned Portugal midfielder Gilson Martins to face Monaco in trouble until the end of the season.
Struggling Martins have played in a match against Diego Simeone since their free transfer from Sporting Lisbon in July and had not played for the club in 2019.
The 23-year-old Portuguese international joined Monaco, who struggled to break free from the base, finishing second, three points behind safety after a 2-0 defeat at Dijon on Saturday.
Monaco sacked coach Thierry Henry last Thursday and reinstated the services of former coach Leonardo Gardem, who had led the team in the 2016-2017 title and qualified for the semifinals of the Champions League, but had been sacked earlier this season.
Atletico Madrid is expected to confirm the transfer of Alvaro Murata Maarara from Chelsea after the player has pbaded the medical examination in Madrid, the capital, earlier Sunday.
