The plane carrying Argentinian footballer Emiliano Sala and his pilot were found while they were heading to the Welsh capital, Cardiff, said Sunday the British Air Accident Investigation Bureau.
"I can confirm that he was found," said a spokeswoman for the office. Underwater searches were conducted on Sunday to find the unmanned engine that disappeared from radar on January 21 over the sea about 20 kilometers north of the island of Gornisi.
The spokeswoman did not specify where and when the plane was found, only explaining that the FBI would issue a statement Monday morning.
"The wreckage was found early Sunday morning shortly after the start of the mission," said David Mernes, whose family had commissioned Bluewater Recrufries to conduct underwater research.
Sala, 28, and pilot David Abbotsson, 59, have left Nantes, in western France, where the Argentinian striker was playing until then to travel to Cardiff, Wales, to join his new club, Cardiff City.
The FBI announced Wednesday that it had found the wreck of "probably" two seats of the plane disappeared on a beach in the French municipality of Sortanville, in the northwestern region.
