Collected more points than any tournament team since being replaced as Mourinho's successor
If the English Premier League started the day Norway striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, Manchester United would be in the lead.
The Norwegian coach not only changed the bad mood under former Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, leading the team to a 5-1 win over Cardiff City in his opening match, but continued to win one after another.
The first victory over Leicester City was the seventh in eight league games, including a draw, which means that United has scored more than any other team in the tournament since winning Cardiff on December 22.
It's not surprising that United's fans, who have been suffering from the departure of coach Alex Ferguson in 2013, have become very disappointed with the name ULE.
Facing Leicester, the crowd has long sung its name before Marcos Rushford shakes the net to impose in the first period. After the match, Solskjaer went to greet United fans alongside King Power Stadium.
"They are the best in the world," said Solskjaer, 45, who has kept his smile despite the recognition of his team's modest performances in recent years.
The win means United has won five straight wins in all competitions for the first time since October 2012 with Ferguson. The team is now two points behind the golden box, out of reach of the last days of Mourinho.
"They are doing each other better," Solskjaer said, questioned about the evolution of Rushford and Paul Bugba's performance after a bad spell with Mourinho. After Mourinho criticized Rachford for his lack of "personal and offensive character", Solskjaer compared Rachford and Cristiano Ronaldo and pressure the young striker to live up to his expectations.
After losing a close head (in the match against Leicester), the comparison with Ronaldo, who won the Golden Ball five times, was an exaggeration. But a few minutes later, Paul Pogba managed a superb pbad that also shone with Solskjaer and managed a powerful shot.
"It was a wonderful touch," said Solskjaer. The boy develops and improves. Bogba and Rushford make each other better. "
The development was definitely going on. After scoring three league goals with Mourinho, Rashford has scored six times in the past eight games and only Tottenham Hotspur's Sun Hyung-Min was outclbaded during that period.
Mourinho used to criticize Rashford and touch him in front of the lens, pointing out that his modest effectiveness against the goal "is not related to work, but to natural possibilities".
But Rashford's brilliant performance with Solskjaer highlights Mourinho's failure to extract the best of the English striker and not a lack of efficiency. While Rushford's efficiency with Solskjaer has improved, his throws in the new style of play have shown his confidence.
Rashford has played less than two games with Mourinho this season, but after the Portuguese coach left, he averaged five shots every 90 minutes. Rushford has scored at least two goals in every league match with Solskjaer after two or three times in three games with Mourinho this season.
In the 151 games played at the first team level, Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, former United striker, and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool striker, scored 21 goals.
Borrowing from his Norwegian birth to United by the end of the season, Solskjaer has strengthened his chances of being finally responsible for the results and his relationship with fans and players.
Even before his appearance as a coach, Solskjaer was champion at Old Trafford when he scored in the first six minutes of his first appearance in 1996, then beat Bayern in stoppage in the league final champions in 1999.
Solskjaer said his birth officials would back his decision to continue with Manchester United. He spoke of his debut with weak rivals, but led the team to a superb win, both Arsenal in FA Cup and Tottenham Hotspur in league. This month, he will face tough tests against Paris St Germain in the Champions League and Chelsea in the FA Cup and Liverpool. If he had been undefeated during these clashes, it would be difficult for the Old Trafford administration to say "goodbye" to him.
