RABAT, Jan. 5 (KUNA) – The Moroccan government announced on Tuesday that the death toll from swine flu (H1N1) has risen to 16.
"Sixteen deaths have been registered so far and 36 cases are still being treated," Moroccan government spokesman Mustapha al-Khalji told reporters.
He called on citizens not to worry about swine flu, stressing that "the epidemiological situation is normal and similar to that recorded internationally".
He pointed out that steps had been taken to strengthen the health surveillance and epidemiological surveillance system through a proactive campaign "in which there is an accurate information system to track monitored cases" .
The World Health Organization (WHO), through its office in Rabat, said in a joint statement with the Moroccan Ministry of Health that the epidemic status of swine flu in Morocco "is not a cause for concern ", pointing out that he is following the situation closely.
