(Reuters) – Onai Emery, the Arsenal coach, said Thursday that his team could finish the Premier League at Golden Square, but needed to score more points to improve his defense and mentality.
Arsenal, who is six points behind the Champions League semifinals, has not won six away since his 2-1 win over Bournemouth in November.
But he has won six consecutive home games to stay close to the best teams.
"We're strong here, but I think we need to get better outside our home," Emery told reporters before running into Huddersfield's closest city on Saturday.
"I am the first critic of myself, we can be in the gold box, but the task is not easy.Every game outside of us will be a new challenge, but it's a excellent opportunity to score three points.
Arsenal is the only team in the Premier League not to have drawn in any game away so far this season, despite Emery's experience in several defense projects.
"We know we need to improve the defense, we tried to play defense with two and three players, we have to be patient and calm and above all continue to work," he said.
German defender Shkodran Mustapha and midfielder Henrik Makhtarian are back in training after an injury and the Armenian player may be able to participate after seven weeks.
"Six weeks after the injury, we thought (Makhtaryan) was not ready to play against Manchester City," Emery said. "This week, I thought for the first time that he could return to the team."
