Vegetables and fruits fight cancer like compound drugs

A new study indicates that fruits and vegetables contain cancer-resistant compounds similar to those used in licensed drugs.

The study found that out of more than 7900 molecules in fruits and vegetables, 110 have the ability to fight tumors.

These results were based on the similarity of the molecules with the compounds present in the drugs used against cancer.

Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants called flavonoids, which stain them and can help prevent cancer by suppressing inflammation and controlling cell proliferation, or even inducing tumors to "commit suicide."

Dr. Keryl Vesilkov, of the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London, studied 7962 active molecules using a "trained" algorithm to identify the properties of 199 anti-cancer drugs.

After stimulating biologically active molecules in the human body, the algorithm predicted that there were 110 cancer resistance properties, which is similar to anticancer drugs by more than 70%.

The researchers discovered fruits and vegetables with the most anti-cancer properties: sweet orange, grapes, carrots, cabbage, wild celery, coriander, dill and tea.

The researchers said that eating a lot of these fruits and vegetables can be helpful because of its high anti-cancer antioxidant content.
