A giant red star is coming to an end, allowing to know more about the disappearance and decline of the sun, scientists said in a new study.

Astronomers participating in the study, published Thursday in the journal Astrophysical Journal, said astronomers were watching the giant red star Tomei, T Orsi Minors, endangered for decades.

They said they saw a rare dynamic phenomenon that foreshadowed the disappearance of the star for the first time: Teomi lies more than 3,000 light years from Earth in the smaller bear group.

The star appeared about 1.2 billion years ago, about twice the size of the solar system.

Astronomers said that during the last stages of his life, before becoming a white dwarf, Tomei had undergone a series of changes in its mbad over the last million years.

"The energy production in Tomei has become unstable," said Meredith Joyce, co-author of the study, astronomer at the Australian National University.
