Alison Félix, who has won six Olympic gold medals after returning to the competition after 13 months of absence due to maternity, has qualified for the 400m semi-final at the first day of the American Track and Field Championships.
The 33-year-old returned to the tournament at Drake University, Iowa, to seek her ticket to the US team at the World Championships in Doha from September 27 to October 6.
Felix, the only runner to win six Olympic gold medals, is trying to find the best after her birth in November.
The return of the Olympic and world champion was not easy, since he was ranked fourth in his group with a time of 52.20 seconds, a considerable difference from his personal best (49.26 W.) achieved in 2015 during his world title victory only in the 400 meters, was forced to wait for the rest of the results of the other groups to secure their qualification for the next round.
"I felt rusty, it was a bit predictable," said Felix, a Los Angeles native. "I have not run for a long time.
Felix is looking for a fifth Olympic entry to his triumphal career at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, though she has dropped, but has highlighted the positive aspects of her participation.
"Even if the result was not good for me, it's a starting point," she said. "My most important goal is next year," she said of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The American athlete confirmed that the most difficult part of her return was to restore her fitness while balancing the demands of the family and her role as a mother.
