A heat wave dominates the European continent, with record temperatures. "It is clear that cooling is a big weakness for us, we have a new adjustment for cooling systems to be more efficient," said Potas. "Hopefully this will give us extra degrees (to withstand a higher temperature than before), but I'm not sure anyone expects to run in temperatures up to 40 degrees."
Hamilton hoped to see an improvement of Ferrari and Red Bull this weekend, welcome in the spirit of competition "in the hope of getting closer (in terms of speed compared to Mercedes) as the season progresses ".
Faced with this problem, Ferrari surpbaded the German freestyle with a double win: Sebastian Vettel's driver scored the best result of the day, against Hamilton's third place. Charles Leclair came in second, Hamilton using medium tires while Ferrari used the fastest tires. Hamilton leads for the sixth time in the world championship with a 39-point lead over fellow Botas, victim of a collision at the end of the free trial.
